How pharmacy licensing works in Alabama.
Alabama adds a personal step: every new pharmacist, including those transferring in, has a virtual interview with Board members before a license is issued. Technicians register with the Board and must complete approved training within six months.
NAPLEX, MPJE and a Board interview
New pharmacists pass the NAPLEX and the Alabama MPJE, then interview virtually with Board members. Alabama requires 1,500 internship hours, with 400 of them in a traditional pharmacy setting.
NABP transfer plus the Alabama MPJE
Licensed pharmacists apply through NABP's e-LTP, pass the Alabama MPJE and complete a virtual Board interview, held monthly on Board meeting days.
Registered, then trained within six months
Technicians register with the Board and complete a Board-approved training program within six months of registration. Passing the PTCB or NHA certification exam satisfies the training requirement.
Technicians can give vaccines
Registered technicians with immunization training, CPR certification and hands-on injection training can be authorized to give vaccines under direct pharmacist supervision.
